Recycling Centres

Westmeath County Council have two recycling centres.

  • Zone C, Clonmore Business Park, Mullingar, N91 X768 Tel: 044 93 44155.
  • Rear of Golden Island Shopping Centre, Athlone, N37 T625 Tel: 090 647 7397.

  • Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is accepted free of charge. 
  • Household Use Only.

Fees: (From 1st September 2014) :  €3 per car ; €10 per car/van with trailer.

Opening Hours: Monday - Saturday 9am - 5pm (last entry 4.40pm)

Bring Banks:

There are 49 Bring Banks in County Westmeath where glass, aluminium cans and textiles can be recycled free of charge.

  • Sort glass by colour (clear/brown/green).  Blue glass bottles/ jars, may be placed in the green bottle bank
  • Remove lids
  • Containers to be clean and free of food/ liquid residue
  • Drinking glasses/window glass/pyrex/crockery will contaminate the glass bottles and jars and make it un-recyclable

Ballydonagh Waste Facility - this facility is now closed

Please Note: The civic waste facility at Ballydonagh landfill is now closed. Alternative domestic waste facilities are available from authorised waste facilities in Athlone and Mullingar. The council have a recycling centre at Golden Island, Athlone. Telephone No: 09064 77397. This facility accepts residual waste / household waste at €4 per bag and a large range of bulky items (fees apply). The nearest operating waste disposal facility to Balldonagh is Barna Waste located on the Garrycastle road across from Athlone Institute of Technology.
